Storage Space Calculator
The Free disk space calculator predicts the amount of hard drive storage space that will be used by a CCTV camera over a period of time.  The calculator uses the camera resolution, frame rate, quality setting, and encoding method to estimate the space required to store video. Storage space calculation also depends on the amount of activity recorded by the camera.  For example a camera recording a busy street would use more storage space than a camera on a quiet street.  This is not something that can be estimated by a tool and therefore we recommend you use this tool with discretion.  Active Online Security will not be responsible for variations between the tools estimation and actual results.

How to use the Storage Space Calculator:

The Storage Space Calculator has been defined for the recorder on this page.  The maximum number of cameras has been set and the available hard drive bays and maximum hard drive size have been preset.

Select the number of cameras you will install, the resolution of those cameras (for different cameras you will need to run the tool for each camera and then add the totals of all calculations to arrive at the total), the frame rate, the quality setting, the type of encoding, the number of hours per day you will be recording, and the number of days you wish to store recordings.  When you click Calculate the calculator will show the Daily Storage (GB), the Total Storage (TB) for the number of days, and the Max Storage of System (TB) available on the recorder.  If the Total Storage (TB) exceeds the Max Storage of System (TB) then you will need to reduce the settings to below Max Storage of System (TB) for the system to meet your requirements.
